A new blog!!!!

And it's been all change again. After HOYS we were offered a yard at Watership Farm yard which is much closer to home and far easier for family Horton to ferry Hannah and Harry to their respective schools and while we are indebted to Jackie White and Linda Brown for putting up with us all last Summer it made real sense to get closer to home, so now with 2012 well under way we are getting the horses ready. We seem to have all baby things at the moment - three 4yos and a 5yo plus two youngsters coming later for the in-hand season but the 4yos will not be rushed. The breaking-in has gone well and they are at the hacking about stage at the moment. We also have our first coloured in,a lovely filly Fairfax C who was a big winner in hand. The other 4yos are both destined for novice hack classes when they are ready. Another exciting new arrival is a hunter who was shown as a middleweight last year as a 5yo but looking at his limbs I think he could make a heavyweight. Julia Watts has a new small riding horse who we're very pleased with, so it's all systems go at the moment. We have wonderful hacking where we are which is a huge help with the youngsters. 2012 is going to be pretty hectic with the Jubilee and the Olympics. I'm afraid we are going to be watching the Olympics from the comfort of home! It is also going to be interesting to see how the recession will affect the horse world this year and it's a sad fact that all the costs keep spiralling upwards so we are immensely grateful to our owners. Well, time to stop rabbiting on and yes I will try and make more effort to keep the blog going. Do I hear hollow laughter in the background?! What amazes me is how much time people spend on facebook or tweeting (or twittering-take your pick) when I seem to have no spare time at all!

Thy say the road to hell is full of good intentions - after our last blog I fully intended to keep up the blog but fell badly by the wayside. However things have certainly moved on since then as we have changed yards and are now at Bradfield near Reading, namely at the Bradfield Riding Centre where we have the luxury of an indoor school and really good hacking. All the horses have settled in well, and we have some new faces to join the old brigade. Novice hack Delta Tango, 3yo Anton Two To Tango(no relation) and the Obbards' grey mare which will double up as SRTand large hack.We haven't got going properly with the shows yet, though Smalland Tapdance did very well yesterday at the NPS dressage finals, winning two classes and finishing reserve champion, ridden by usual jockey Hannah Horton. The coats are coming through really well thanks to this wonderful bout of warm weather. It will also be very intresting to see how the season will pan out with the costs of everything being so high, so we're really grateful to all our clients who are still so keen.
the season so far

AThere never seems to be any time to update the blog and you suddenly realise the season is whizzing by and people will think there's nothing new on that website and go elsewhere! Anyway, it's been good so far with Guiding Light, Marshbrook Masterpiece, Ballacooley, Moyglass Bally Dancer, Amezola, Yaverland Charmer, Stanley Grange Masterpiece, Smalland Tapdance, Cwmcarrog Catalin and Tidebrook Roger Rabbit all qualified for RIHS. Added to which we took our two two year olds to Devon County for their first ever show and Georgie Fry's Morning Dance won the 2yo hacks and went reserve champion and our Sea Patrol came third in a huge riding horse 2yo class. They generally behaved really well and coped brilliantly with the journey. Lots more shows coming up for all and it seems hard to believe we're nearly in June. It does seem that there are just too many shows for the calendar and it's often hard to decide where to go! At least we got a half decent result with the election but who would envy them trying to sort out the mess?Anyway time will tell as the old saying goes! Time to blog off, and will try to keep this much better up dated in the future.
Spring continued

Schedules are dropping on the mat, the horses are shedding coats and it's all getting rather hectic. Have had a great social time, with Carol and Jayne's Philanderer's Ball, the NPS Ball at Newbury and a wonderful lunch party at the Jerrams'. Sadly we're all now going to be too busy for such junkets!! The other brightness on the horizon is that we might just get rid of Gordon Brown come the election.(Have you noticed he's got a little mannerism with his lower jaw when he speaks, especially when under pressure?)We can but hope that it will turn out right.Back to the horses - new ones coming along well but with the weather setback I reckon we'll be about in mid-April, so quite amazed to hear how many have been to loads of shows already. Anyway, now with a lot about to happen, we might get the blog going even better!
Is Spring here?

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our clients and friends the very best for 2010. Until now the winter was going by really quietly but with us as with lots of you, winter has hit hard - we have a foot of snow outside and we're told more to come!! It's fine if you don't have to go outside, indeed it's spectacular to look at but with horses it's a real pain. It has totally stopped the hunting and though our school didn't freeze now with all that snow on top it will be a nightmare. Turning out for a leg stretch looks to be the best option, but obviously with great care.We have booked horses in for measuring next week so it's anybody's guess if we get there. The big joke is that the Met Office forecast a wet mild winter, and as their forecast for a barbecue summer fell woefully short, when their prediction for winter came in, the Daily Telegraph wisely suggested everyone got their snowboots out. How right they were!! But back to the horses - we have some new faces. Lottie Fry has a new hack, a lovely dark brown gelding - he's done nothing so he's very green but very elegant. Julie Watts has sold Diamond Song and now has a small hunter, a real 4square mare with what appears to be a fab. temperament. She's Irish bred but hasn't been shown. We also have an exciting 14.2 due in, though the weather has delayed his arrival, and later on a 4yo novice riding horse, bred by Langaller Stud, so it's all starting to move - any minute schedules will be dropping on the mat! One thing we managed to do before Christmas was to go to the PoniesUK Christmas lunch which was great fun and made a super day out, and luckily we had good journeys there and back. All of you take care in this weather and also we had a double blog last time - told you Richard wasn't much cop with a computer! 'Bye for now.

It has taken this long to update our blog because Richard is not very handy with a computer, and the shows are long gone!Horse of the Year show was enjoyable and all the horses went well, but it was our two racehorses who flew the flag and were wll placed. Our biggest disappointment was in the Small Hacks where Delta Rhythm was foot perfect but did not find favour with the judges but as always you have to look forward and she has done very well at lots of shows. She has now been sold to Gail Holder for her daughter Emma to ride, so we wish them all the very best. It was hard as having bred her parting is much more emotional. We also have to sell Francesca Leat's Cat-astrophic( and no, we did NOT name him!!) He has done a fantastic job for Cesca winning lots and excellent placings at big shows - he's won hacks, PBA and Intermediates as a 15 hh and always does well at the Cherifs. Cesca has now gone to Uni so will not have time to show. Most of the show horses are on hols. and we are looking for new stars for 2010 as well as hunting with the RA drag on Salisbury Plain. We're looking forward to the Christmas Season and meeting up with friends who we sometimes don't see 'till the first shows but the party season sorts that out!

Chard Show

by: Richard Ramsay
Chard Show, Somerset near Taunton - we had surprisingly good journeys but the weather was horrid with lots of rain all the way to the show. Luckily it brightened up and the going was fantastic.
We were thrilled to win the Hack Champion and the reserve Champion. So that brings our tally to five qualified for HOYS already this season.
Racehorse Class
Sat, 11th July 2009
by: Richard Ramsay
We had two of our produced horses in the Racehorse class today, one of them was ridden by their owner who we train and produce for.
We got a brilliant result as both of them qualified for HOYS. Amezola, belonging to and ridden by Dawn Bacchus, and Hannah Horton, aged 15, riding Devine Dancer.

What a great day we were in the show hunter class at BSPS Area 19, Ipswich. Chelsea Pearce, 10, rode her new Show Hunter pony Beck Croft Bestman and won the class as well as Reserve Champion.
He is a new pony to her this year and already she has now qualified for HOYS and The Royal International so a good day was had by all.
The Marjorie and Richard Blog

Welcome to our first website, we hope you enjoy using it as much as we have creating it. Well this is our first blog and I am sure we are going to enjoy updating it to tell everyone how we are doing, communications have moved on so much during our showing career and now we feel very up to the minute.
This year has started for us just as we had hoped. Already we are have two qualified for HOYS - Tied Brook Roger Rabbit the leadrein who also won the mini champioship at the South of England Show. Delta Rythmn has also qualified as a small hack.
We would like to take this opportuntiy to advise everyone to stay safe this year, with the season starting with accidents. Horses can pose a risk but make sure you are as prepared as possible. We use OxyShot for calming at the shows with horses we feel may need to have some aditional support at busy shows. If you see us at the shows please come and say hi. We will write again next week.
A happy home for your horse. Livery at the Ramsay yard incorporates experience and great hacking out.
